Reign Energy Drink Review: Are They As Good as Bang?
Contents
Reign Energy Drinks get a lot of hype. But are they really as good as Bang Energy Drinks? We compared the two to find out.
Who Makes Reign?
Monster Beverage Corp. launched Reign in 2019. The first lineup included flavors like Sour Apple, Carnival Candy, Peach Fizz, and Razzle Berry. Prices vary by store and pack size.
Monster claims that Reign, which is marketed as a whole-body fuel, targets two markets: pre or post-workout performance beverages and energy drinks. Reign contains BCAAs (branched-chain amino acids), CoQ10, and electrolytes, along with a large amount of caffeine.
How much Caffeine is in Reign?
Each 16 fl oz can of Reign has 300 mg of caffeine. Bang also has 300 mg per 16 oz can, which puts both among the most caffeinated energy drinks on store shelves.
Caffeine can improve exercise performance, but you don’t need 300 mg to get that effect. The FDA says up to 400 mg a day is not generally linked to harmful effects in healthy adults. One can of Reign uses up three quarters of that, so a coffee plus a Reign can easily put you over.
Both cans list 300 mg of caffeine. Bang has advertised its caffeine as caffeine anhydrous.
Anhydrous simply means the caffeine is a dry powder with the water removed. It is the same caffeine molecule found in coffee, and once it’s dissolved in a drink, it works the same way.
At 300 mg of caffeine each, Reign and Bang have almost twice as much caffeine as a standard 16 oz Monster (about 160 mg). According to NCCIH, high caffeine intake can cause heart rhythm problems and raise heart rate and blood pressure.
Do they taste good?
Reign’s flavor fluctuates from can to can, varying from excessively sugary candy to a rather acidic lemon taste, as it comes in a range of tastes and does not have an authentic flavor. As always, choose the taste that appeals to you the most. Carnival candy isn’t something we personally would choose, but it can be precisely what you need to get rolling.
Is Reign Energy a Good Pre-workout drink?
Reign can work as a pre-workout drink thanks to its high caffeine content and low calories. The caffeine is what improves energy, attention, and reaction time; the vitamins add little. Caffeine alone won’t make you lose weight. If you drink Reign, one can a day is the most you should have.
The number of calories in a typical 16 fl. oz. can of Reign ranges from 0 to 10, slightly changing depending on the flavor you choose. Considering Reign’s low-calorie content, you’ll have much more freedom to incorporate it into your everyday activities and meals because it won’t significantly alter your diet.
As a result, avoid hitting the gym merely by consuming a can of Reign. Remember that while energy drinks are fantastic as a pick-me-up, nothing beats a real meal to provide you with long-lasting energy.
Reign does function rather effectively as an energy drink, both for attention and holding oneself awake in addition to general exertion, considering its relatively strong caffeine level. Whether it suits you depends mostly on whether you tolerate its very high caffeine content. This is because all energy drinks eventually come back to caffeine.
If you are sensitive to caffeine, skip Reign; you may get jitters, a racing heart, or a headache instead of an energy boost. Reign isn’t for children, teens, pregnant people, or anyone with a heart condition. For healthy adults who tolerate caffeine, it can help a workout, though the small amount of BCAAs adds little if you already eat enough protein.
So, to answer the question, Reign is about as good as Bang. Both have 300 mg of caffeine and almost no calories, so the choice mostly comes down to flavor and price.
